How to use the live chat

edited May 2016 in Support

This is slightly out of date as it was written a week before we upgraded the forums. After the upgrade, this process changed slightly.  Please use your best judgment to do as you can to follow the spirit of this post.  When I get some free time, I will update the post(s) with new instructions.

Please visit http://minecats.com/discord as well for instructions to use the MineCats Discordapp server! :)/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20">

First, read this entire post.

Click -> Here

Fill in the form and press "Start".

Nickname: This should be your Minecraft user name. In my case, it is AeSix_Reficul

Channel: will be #minecats - do not change this or you won't be able to talk to us.

Start: This will start the online chat window. It may take a minute to load so be patient. Once you are connected, you may talk. The chat works like Minecraft's in-game chat.

(If you are reporting a server down, please type this exactly:

     cindy_k the server has crashed! Please help!

and wait for her to respond.)

Chat Behavior: There are some basic behavior rules to abide by in this chat. Be courteous and kind, don't use bad language - there may be children present. Do not continually type the name of anyone in the chat, one time is enough.  Wait for a reply and do not be impatient, it is normal for us to take several minutes to respond.  Use of English is required, proper English will get better results from the staff. :)/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20">

More Info: You are welcome to stay and chat with others. This is a public, general topic chat room. We also use this for support, for the servers and any time we need to have conversations without the Minecraft chat limitations.  Also, if you need a staff member, it is better to do /who in-game to see if there is a cubtamer, moderator, srmod or admin on to help.

Reporting Things: There are several reasons why reporting something in a modreq isn't the best option. If there are no staff on in-game and the issue you're reporting don't fit in the "How to report other problems" forum post, you can also do this here.  Please note however that the chat you are put into is public and anyone can be reading it, please let the staff know it is a private issue.  If you're unsure of who to trust, you can wait for one of the admins you know by name.

Chatting is as simple as typing what you want, then pressing the "Enter" key.

You can see who is online in the chat by clicking on the circle with three gray people, this is in the top right corner of the chat window.  If you want to be somewhat anonymous (staff may still figure out who you are), you may choose to not use your Minecraft username.

Have a wonderful day, Good luck and See ya in the chat! :)/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20">
